How to save your sanity in a highly stressful environment

In today's fast paced world where everyone is always in a hurry and taking a break is not always an option - it's very easy to succumb to stress. A lot of young and not-so-young entrepreneurs are feeling the pressure and they are feeling like they are losing "it". But, is building your business and chasing after your dreams enough for you to surrender your sanity? I don't think so. 

The good news is, there are ways on how you can stay calm despite being in a stressful environment. Read on.

 

Stay Positive

I understand that it's not easy to stay positive every single time; nevertheless, it's one of the surefire ways how you can avoid stress from entering your life. Personally, I find changing your perspective particularly helpful in keeping stress at bay. Looking at the same situation from a different perspective and putting yourself in other people's shoes certainly help in allowing yourself to realize that things are not as bad as they seem. 

 

No need for "what-ifs" 

Any person who consciously tries to avoid stress knows that entertaining "what-ifs" is not helpful at all. It takes you to a place of uncertainty that only fuels the fire of doubt instead of you focusing your energy working toward your goal. If you want to save your sanity, you may want to refrain from asking "what if".

 

Know your enemy

If there's something that gets you all worked up and stressed, you have to identify what it is. Identifying the root cause of your stress is essential because then you will be able to look for its weakness and find your strengths which can help you in combating the cause of your sleepless nights. 

 

Get off the grid 

What better way to avoid stress than to run away from it? Okay, you’re not running away, you just need to learn how to balance everything by being off the grid every now and then. You allow yourself to be vulnerable to stress when you appear to be always available through email, chat, or phone every second of every day. While it’s true that unforeseen circumstances do happen, the majority of these things can actually be dealt with the next day. It only seems to be that urgent because you constantly check your phone or laptop every 15 minutes.

 

Delegate

A wise person knows she cannot do everything. We can only do so much because we only have one body and there are only 24 hours in a day. So what do you do when there’s tons of work waiting to be done? You delegate! Find or train someone who can do the things you need to do how you want to do it. This will literally take loads off your back, ergo less stress for you. You’re welcome.

 

Relax your mind

There are apps available online that uses brainwave-altering sounds to help you focus on whatever it is you need to do – be it focus, relax, sleep, or meditate. One such app is brain.fm, an audio is played in 30-minute duration and you get to choose how you want to use it for. It’s a great help especially for those who are having a hard time focusing and relaxing.

 

This is definitely a short list and there are more ways out there on how you can train your mind to “let it go” even for just a short while, to give your mind and soul a space to breathe. But the bottom line is, we have to commit to ourselves that we aim to be better and we aim for a calm mind despite being in the center of it all.
